Paris Hilton Style- The Not-So Simple Life

The only thing that the public likes better than a rags-to-riches story is, well, a story of the naturally rich. And, without a doubt, no story is more eagerly told, read, and discussed than the story of Paris Hilton.

The stars were definitely not blind in New York City when Paris Whitney Hilton was born on February 17, 1981. As heiress to the massive Hilton hotel empire, she was given nicknames like “Star” and “Princess”, so it only seemed natural that Paris was destined for great things. Critics, however, are anything but kind to the socialite, dubbing her no more than a talentless “professional celebrity.” Well, talentless or not, it's certainly not for lack of trying!

Paris started out as a child model, mostly appearing in charity events. At 19, the blonde was as tall and statuesque as any one of her family's hotels, so it was only inevitable that she continued modeling. She first signed with Donald Trump's T Management modeling agency, and eventually moved on to the more prestigious Ford Models Agency in New York and Models 1 Agency in London.

Even with her family's influence and a modeling career under her belt, it was something a lot more unconventional – not to mention, scandalous - that catapulted Paris to the A-list. In 2003, a homemade sex video of Paris and then-boyfriend Rick Salomon made rounds over the Internet. After several lawsuits so dramatic that even Hollywood sat up and noticed, the video was later released as the adult DVD, One Night in Paris. It not only made Paris the most searched-for celebrity on the Internet, it also secured her place on Tinseltown. Since then, Paris Hilton has become a movie star (never mind that she's only appeared in B movies so far), the queen of reality TV (The Simple Life and Paris Hilton's My New BFF), a singer with a Billboard 200 top ten single (Stars Are Blind), and, strangely enough, co-author of her own autobiography, aptly titled Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose. She's also as much a staple in high-profile celebrity parties as the hors d'oeuvre.

Paris Hilton is famous for changing her relationships as often as she changes her underwear. In fact, it's almost hard to keep up with her dating history. She was engaged several times to model Jason Shaw, shipping heir Paris Latsis, and most recently, Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. She's also been in highly publicized relationships with Nick Carter, Stavros Niarchos III, and of course, Rick Salomon. She is currently rumored to be dating no other than George Clooney.

And just as the men in her life seemed to come and go, so do the women. After falling out with her The Simple Life co-star, Nicole Richie, she has gone through a string of BFFs (that's best friend forever to you!), including Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and Tara Reid. Her current BFF is Brittany Flickinger, who she chose among 17 other contenders on her MTV reality show, Paris Hilton's My New BFF.

As volatile as Paris' personal relationships might be, 2 people (okay, one isn't exactly a person) remain constant – Tinkerbell the Chihuahua, and fellow 'celebutante' and younger sister, Nicky, a former model and now a fashion designer. Nicky launched the uber-popular Chick clothing line in 2004. She also designed a very well-received handbag line for Samantha Thavasa between 2002 to 2005, which Paris wholeheartedly endorses. She has since started a second more mature – not to mention, more expensive - clothing line called Nicholai, which debuted during the New York Fashion Week last fall.

Throughout her career, Paris has been making headlines on a daily basis. In 2007, she spent a brief time in jail for reckless driving. In December 2008, $2 million worth of jewelry was stolen from her Los Angeles home. Most recently she's been spotted spending $100 a minute in a trendy Melbourne boutique, claiming that she's doing her bit for Australia's economy.

Despite all her rich-girl antics, there's really much to love about the girl everyone loves to hate. A staunch animal lover, Paris has vowed never to wear real fur. She periodically goes through all her clothes and puts them up for sale with the proceeds going straight to charity. Thanks to her mom, Kathy's influence, the socialite is involved in numerous children's charities – a fact that has been largely downplayed by the media.

Without a doubt, Paris is one of today's most important fashion icons. Although her style is impeccable most of the time, she's also done time for numerous crimes of fashion because she takes fashion quite seriously and she can afford to be daring. From barely-there Anne Bowen girly dresses to rhinestone-studded Primp sweats to ostentatious bling from Dior, one thing's for sure – what Paris will wear next is just as highly anticipated as what she will do next.
