Daunting..or just in the bag?
A bag, so different from a dress but yet just needs a wip of imagination and some ideas on paper. Maybe not that simple but if you have the right Manufacturer they can provide almoast anything and everything. I had a meeting today, just another Tuesday sitting in the backseat of the Vendors car. Convinient beeing picked up from my Guesthouse by a polite driver, feels a bit weird though. The ride is yet the best moment of the entire day. It's 40 minutes of cramped up traffic, horns and smog outside the windows, cows and other vechicles bumping into eachother. I have what I call "my time" in that backseat. Watching the landscape of dirty dry roads and green lush fields under bridges and then all the ideas comes popping up. It's zips on dresses, colour of lining in a jacket but today it was different, what about making a bag?
First collection and still lacking the real models..the clothes however ended up on a boat instead of a plane and with 3 months delay I was better off expanding the vision of a new line..so now more embroidery and no crinkled cotton, just heading straight for the satin samouse and raw silk...pic of the new collection will soon be released..
I have all the dresses in mind, the party jackets to go with it but what about a cute bag? Thinking of the time when I desperatly needed a small bag half matching my dress at a wedding a few years back. What a panic, nothing out there and why? Most people use an old brand bag that you need to get your value for, maybe a wrinkled Gucci or half plastic LV but what about something really cute that goes well with the dress right there next to it.
The car stopped outside the Factory, already with some sketches made I hopped out eager to show my new ideas. While walking up the stairs the thought of the Vendor actually laughing at me came in mind. She was only making clothes and had done so for over 6 years. While waiting in her office a had a quick glanze around her showroom, nope, no bags, not even her private one was there.
Finally we sat down, she looked at me then asking"so Alice, what are you up to now?". Without thinking, I said "what do you think about bags?". Later that afternoon and a few phonecalls later we had a bag guy over. That is how India works, anything can really be arranged. He had a look at my rough sketches and then a bit hindu between the Vendor and him. When he finally walked off she said"I think we have something arranged".
I'll keep you updated on the bag business that actually seems to be in the bag. This is a new adventure and so also for the Vendor that now want's to invest in a bagmachine, it seems that a ordinary sewing machine doesn't cut it so she has to find a machine that can operate heavier fabrics but that one will also be able to sew in jeans and leather wich is pretty useful. Will give it a go and maybe add that to a list of items to create.
Some skills will surely be demanded and thinking a bit differently like adding a foam and plastic lining to make a harder shape as they mentioned but fun for shure.
