 If fashion were a person, she'd be Kate Moss.

 

With a boutique manager for a mother, it was only inevitable that Kate will grow up to be one of the most important fashion icons in the world. Discovered at the age of 14 in an airport, she began building a modeling career that was completely different from the supermodel trend of the 90s. While Cindy Crawford reigned supreme with her towering height and curvaceous figure, Kate still managed to steal the limelight - even when she was short for a model at only 5'6” and scarily thin. The “waif”, as she was known, has since worked on campaigns for most of the major Italian, British, and American designers.

 

In 2005, a London tabloid ran pictures of Kate snorting 5 lines of cocaine at one of then-boyfriend, rocker Pete Doherty's recording sessions. Within days, she was unceremoniously dumped by several brands, including Stella McCartney, Burberry, and Chanel. Although she continued to appear in Dior campaigns during that period, it was without question that her career had taken a beating. Kate issued a public apology and checked herself into rehab, which she completed successfully thanks to the support of several friends, including ex-boyfriend, Johnny Depp.

 

Kate recently made headlines after losing her $4,400 engagement ring a mere 3 hours after fiancé, Jamie Hince, gave it to her. She is also rumored to be pregnant , although there are no formal announcements yet.

 

Even with a background of tumultuous relationships and rampant drug use, Kate is still best known for her unique style. No matter where she goes and what she wears, the fashion police always sits up and takes notice. Recently she's been spotted traipsing around London in hot pants and cool Minnetonka Moccasins – an ensemble that has been copied again and again. Indeed, Kate never fails to catch people by surprise with her staunch disregard for dress codes, a daring tendency to purposely mismatch items, a penchant for classic prints, and an aversion to sticking to the current denim trends. It is this effortlessness that makes her wardrobe a favorite topic among admirers and critics alike.

 

Kate is currently doing her bit for the world by making her personal style available for the fashion-challenged through Topshop's Kate Moss line. Since its launch in May 2007, the brand has been enthusiastically lauded, particularly in Britain. The most recent Christmas collection featured glamorous pieces with vintage details and glam-rock embellishments that can only be described as Kate-esque. Kate's designs are readily available in most Topshop stores, fetching between £40 to a whopping £400.

 

“Never look like you're trying too hard.” - this is Kate's fashion mantra. Well, we can't all be Kate Moss, but who says we can't try?
