Happy Birthday Barbie 50!
A bit of history and fun facts about Barbie, or should I say Barbara Millicent Roberts.
Barbie was 'created and born' in Willows,Wisconsin the 9 th of March in 1959. She was 29 cm and had her first display at the New York City Toy Fair where she quickly sold in 300,000 copies that same year. She's been a blond bombshell not always successful with the admiring girls, accused for putting bad influence in young girls when it comes to the 'normal body ideals' as an example, creating disturbance in the debate whether she encourages girls to anorexia.
She was created by 'Mattel' Company Empire and has since her arrival been known as a Fashionista inspiring designers throughout the years.
As a special for her 50 th birthday it's set that New York Fashion Week, Barbie Fashion has put together 50 designers that will be celebrating the history of Barbie, Past, Present and the Future. One of those designers is Christian Louboutin and Diane von Furstenberg that also has a contract with Mattel.
The Vera Wang dress, yes there is a special dress that has been created by non the less than ms Wang and it will be up for grabs with a price tag of $15.000 US, thats the real life sample, there will be a smaller version in "Barbie Size" available for $159.99 US at Toy's R Us on New York Times Square.
Barbie will also be seen wearing Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen and Prada combine with a cooperation with publisher Assouline and be auctioned out for $ 500 US. We all want Barbie's wardrobe! It 's said that she has outfits for 108 separate professions and a total of one billion items of clothing, that is a lot for a skinny blond.
Barbie's biggest competitions is the 'Bratz' dolls that has a bigger set of eyes and by that even bigger heads, enough to drop the sales for Barbie but nothing competes with the nostalgia and charm that surrounds her. There is a court order on the Bratz dolls due to a battle between a former employee that suppose to have 'stolen' some idea while working for Matell and the creating the highly competitive Bratz Doll, but it's said according to the court that Bratz will be able to sell at least one more year.
