Sunburst in my hand...
The demolition of the pale blue beach house, or should I say grotty holiday batch (with random pieces of grass growing unsightly and scattered in its white rusty drain pipes) has slowed down to a halt. For now, the black cables running over its broken walls, working its way up on the tin roof to later end up in a big pile on their sun bleached balcony has been momentarily spared. “It’s going down, yes…soon” I whisper with a grin, just like one of those mean characters in an old James Bond movie.
Then I take another slow sip of my morning coffee as I watch the little diggers and wide chested men move around the construction, pointing and discussing its faith. While that drama unravels outside my bedroom window I had some drama all by myself as I found my House of Harlow 1960 necklace that I wore on my wedding. It was such a great day, the summer sun, family surrounding us and marrying the love of my life. By chance I found my rather big dangly amulet in one of my moving boxes (the charm of moving, as you un-pack old things is seen in a new light as they are surprisingly found). What a treasure, my heart started pounding as I laid it gently in the palm of my hand! Some pieces are like that, if it’s an old sweater, a dress worn on a magical date or a pretty terrible one, a pair of gym socks even. They can all bring a flash of memories to come back, (even though safely stored away). By finding them so you’ll find your charmed memories too…
Yours ever so faithfully, Alice
