 New Zealand Fashion Schools

If you want cutting-edge fashion education, why not study at the edge of the world? New Zealand has some of the most globally competitive fashion schools this side of the equator.

Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) offers both a 1-year Certificate or 2-year Diploma in Fashion Technology and Design in its renowned fashion school. Students work alongside instructors who are also industry professionals, and are given the opportunity to work on real projects for real fashion houses, making it easy for students to establish their own networks for future employment. At the end of the year, students exhibit their collections in any of the school's annual fashion shows. Applicants are required to present a portfolio during interview. Enrollment can be done online, by post, or in person. For more information, visit: http://www.cpit.ac.nz/subjects/fashion.

The Design & Arts College of New Zealand (D&A) offers a 2-year Diploma of Fashion Design and a 3-year Diploma of Fashion Design on the advanced level. The first year is spent studying the rudiments of fabrics and design, while business and application are introduced in the subsequent years. At the end of their study, students are given the opportunity to showcase their designs in D&A's annual fashion shows. D&A's graduates have moved on to build careers in design, styling, and fashion merchandising. The diploma programs range from NZ$5,385 to NZ$5,410 per year for local students and NZ$13,500 per year for international students, inclusive of homestay accommodation and visa costs. Students can apply for a slot online at: http://www.dac.ac.nz/.

Wanganui UCOL School of Fashion boasts a personal approach in instruction. Classes are kept small to give instructors to focus on each of the students' individual style and creativity. With the UCOL's 1-year certificate course, as well as dynamic bachelor and honours degrees, students are groomed for successful careers within the fashion industry. The bachelor's program costs NZ$5,020 per year for local students and NZ$16,800 for international students, inclusive of accommodation and relevant visas. Certificates cost NZ$3,441 and NZ$13,600 for local and international students, respectively. You can apply at: http://www.ucol.ac.nz/.
